He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy W. Farmer and Barbara Gibson Ewaldt (Farmer); and his stepparents, Ralph and Jeannet. He is survived by: his brothers, Lyle Eugene, Roy and Maurice Gail (Bud); his former wives, Sue Light and Joyce Hanson; his brother Wayne; his great grandchildren, Jayden and Alexa; his wife Jean Lawson; his children, Ron Clement (Sheri), Scott Clement (Laurie), Sherry Farmer and Barbara Surchik (Ed); his stepdaughters, Joy Purvis and Dawn Lyles (Steven); his grandchildren, Megan, Sara, Dennis, Jessica, Bryan, Laura, Samirah, Aubrey, Jake, Caden, Brett, Dylan, Shelby, Shayla and Chase; and his brothers, Lyle Farmer and Bud Farmer (Sharon).
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) an organization that Merle supported.
