He is survived by: his wife Vada Arlene Mertens (Roark); his children, James Robert Mertens (Amanda) of Miami, OK and Beverly Kichler (Jeremiah) of Miami, OK; his siblings, John Mertens of Joplin, MO, Jeanne Mertens of Miami, OK, Janie Hopkins of Tuscaloosa, AL and Janna Mertens of Portland, OR; and his grandchildren, Lilli Kichler, James Mertens, Annabell Mertens, Gemma Kichler and Truman Kichler.
