He is survived by: his wife Esther Updike of Eufaula, Oklahoma; his children, Leslie Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Patrick Updike (DeDee) of Red Oak, Peter Updike (Dana) of Bentonville and Richard Updike (Angela) of San Antonio, Texas; his grandchildren, Janessa Thomas Hollmaier (Cooper) of Seattle, Miranda Thomas (Leslie), Jeffrey Updike of Rapid City, Kyle Updike of Cincinnati, Kara Updike of San Diego, Kameron (Peter) and Ashley (Richard); his stepgrandsons, Dalton Holbrook (Alysia) of Tarkio, Dain Ellis of Arlington and Devin Ellis (Natalie) of Omaha; his stepgreat-grandsons, Treyven (Dalton) and Gannon (Dain); his half-brother Kenny Updike (Vera) of Falls City, Nebraska; his great-aunt Wanda Updike of Clarinda, Iowa; his cousin Jerry Russmann of Eufaula; and his close friends, Wayne Strittmatter of Apple Valley and Ray Hellstrom of Kansas City, Missouri..
