He was predeceased by: his sisters, Betty Schgier and Alice Corwin. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie M Sauer; and his children, Douglas C Sauer (Sharamaine "Sherry") of Findlay and Jacqueline "Jackie" Gray of Westerville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
