He was predeceased by: his father Leon Carlton Barnett Sr.; his grandmother Edwina Bailey; and his great-grandparents, Thomas and Zora Murdock. He is survived by: his mother Phyllis Mae Thompson (Herman); his children, Shawntá Thompson, Darian Thompson (Victoria), Shawn Thompson, Jr. (Skyla), Symeria Thompson and Nichea Self; his grandchildren, Nova, Carmello, Lyric, Maliyah and Jaliyah; his siblings, Steven Thompson (Sarah), Stephanie Arney (Darwin), Brian Bailey (Anita), Scott Thompson (Nellie), Leon Barnett (Crystal), Deion Barnett (Nina), Lynette McDuffey-Garrett (Greg) and Sabrina Barnett-Jamison (Norman "Rocky"); his aunt Diane Henderson (Emma Wallace); and his brothers, Alex, Hector, Aric, Tim and Walt.
