He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, William Ankenbrandt and June Ankenbrandt; his family Jenny; his children, Jamie Hanifan and Denny Ankenbrandt Jr. (Jaclyn); his grandchildren, Adam Ankenbrandt, Johnny Hanifan III, Cora Hanifan and Sophia Ankenbrandt; his siblings, Mary Ellen Smith, Bill Ankenbrandt (Kim), Bob Ankenbrandt (Tammy), Jack Ankenbrandt (Birdie), Ed Ankenbrandt and Dan Ankenbrandt (Kenny Ankenbrandt); and his brothers-in-law, Joe Andros, Tom Hall and Charles Reynolds. He was also cherished by his several nieces and nephews.
