He was predeceased by: his adoptive parents, Ralph O Benington and Martha Benington (Dale); his birth parents, Joanne Duty and LaMar Long; and his sisters, Bev McDonnell and Vickie Neeld.

He is survived by: his wife Pamela Benington (Coder); his children, Jeremy Benington (Susan), Jessica Sokolowski (Jason) and Zoë Benington; his grandchildren, Evan, Quinn, Griffin and Emmett; and his siblings, Jerri Foreman (Les), Debbie Wagy, Steve Clifton (Tammy), Teresa Miller (Sam), Jennifer Monaghan, Jane Greenfield, Mary Sanchez, Mark Long and Jon Long.
