He was predeceased by: his parents, William Smith and Lucille Smith (Pearce); his son Donald R. Smith, Jr.; his siblings, Ronald Smith and Judy Laurie; and his brother-in-law Larry Pierce.
He is survived by: his wife Deborah A. "Debbie" Swanter; his son Jason A. Smith (Heidi) of Poland; his grandsons, Jacob D. Smith of Poland and Tyler J. Smith of Poland; his siblings, William Smith (Veronica) of Canfield and Martha Pierce of St. Petersburg, FL; and his sister-in-law Sally Smith of Delray Beach, FL..
