He was predeceased by: his wife Naomi Welling; his children, Roy Welling and Claudia Welling; and his sisters, Merle Huff, Patsy Rodgers and Bonnie Nesselroad.

He is survived by: his children, Charlie Welling, Pearl Livingood, Sandra Brum, Susan Smith, Connie Sinkowski (Eric), Christina Fisher (Jim) and Carl Welling; his siblings, Howard Welling and Mary Shook; and his niece Jessica Riley. He is also survived by several grandchildren; several great grandchildren.
