He was predeceased by: his parents, Samford Simmons and Catherine Simmons; his wife Shirley; and his siblings, Tom, Clarence, Paul Simmons, Mary Shahan, Dorothy Etchison, Lucille Shaw, Virginia Shahan and Lillie Philippi.
He is survived by: his children, Sandy Bates (Greg), Ricky Simmons, Greg Simmons (Tammy), Diane Kennedy (John), Walter Simmons and Tina McKenzie (George); and his brothers, Lloyd and Jim Simmons. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
