He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Darling and Gathel Darling; and his sisters, Pat Russell and Joan Wagner. He is survived by: his wife Janet Smalley Russell; his children, Wendy Miller (Jerry) of Katy, TX and David Russell (Thomas) of Oakland, CA; his granddaughters, Ashley Miller of Katy, TX and Lauren Robinson (Heath) of Sulphur Springs, TX; his brother Rick Russell (Cathy) of Jeromesville; and his cousin Joyce Zimmann. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
