He was predeceased by: his parents, August Schmitz and Hilda Schmitz; his wife Mary Jo Schmitz; his siblings, Tommy Schmitz, Bill Schmitz (Shirley), Maggie Schwartz (Ray), Alice Ittner (John), Gus, Paul and Bob Schmitz; and his brother-in-law Tom Stark.
He is survived by: his children, David Schmitz (Marybeth), Kevin Schmitz (Diane), Bruce Schmitz, Christopher Schmitz (Kim) and Melissa Moore (Rich); his grandchildren, Lori Finch (Andy), Jordan, Caroline, Maria, Lexie, Becca Dennis (Dylan), Jared (Allison), Jermey, Josh (Allie), Brooklyn, Dylan Schmitz, Kylie, Braden and Bryson Moore; his siblings, Annie Stark and Allen "Boug" Schmitz; and his sisters-in-law, Janet Schmitz and Sylvia Schmitz. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
