He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Birchum and Jean Frances Young Birchum. He is survived by: his wife Willadean Hutchinson Birchum; his children, Kirk Shannon Birchum of Greenfield and Shelly Marie Bett of Greenfield; his grandson Joshua Bett; and his brother Steve Birchum (Debra) of Springfield.

A memorial service will be held later when it is safe from the COVID crisis.
