He is survived by: his wife Tonya Catherine Detty; his children, Deecy Renee Allmand, James R. "Jay" McCoy Jr. (Tauna), Jeremy W. McCoy, Jeffery A. McCoy, Jonathan J. Detty (Nicole) and Jennifer M. Grimm; his grandchildren, Rebecca of Brittany, J. T., Alayna, Kaity, Jonathan, Jordan, Noah and Tyler; and his siblings-in-law, Charles Madison, Don Potter, Bev McCoy and Marianna "Nelle" Lehr.
