He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hoeft and Bertha Hoeft (Gerkensmeyer); his sisters, Lynette Drummond and Barbara Schumacher; and his siblings-in-law, Russell Schumacher and Lois Hoeft.
He is survived by: his wife Judith Hoeft (Holcombe); his daughters, Lisa Snider (Dan) of Cumming, GA and Christine Lowe (Robert) of Northwood, OH; his grandchildren, Amanda Gantt (Michael) of Cumming, GA, Andrew Snider of Cumming, GA, Dr. Stephen Lowe of Tampa Fl, Nathan Lowe of Union, KY and Adrienne Lowe of Northwood, OH; his great grandchildren, Addison and Connor Gantt of Cumming, GA; and his siblings, Donald, Dennis, Marlon Hoeft (Karen), Brenda Fulkert (Donald) and Janet Ruffell (Alan).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Mel made be given to the St. John's United Church of Christ Youth Group, 1213 Washington Street, Genoa, OH, 43430.
