He was predeceased by: his mother Betty Helwig; his significant other Peggy Martin; and his father Fred Helwig, Sr.. He is survived by: his daughters, Deidre and Stephanie; his siblings, Fred Jr., Jane, William and Peggy; and his grandchildren, Ashlynn, Gavin, Harley and Navy. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
