She was predeceased by: her parents, John Slaughter and Beulah Slaughter; and her siblings, Jack (Peggy), Dale (Gwen) and Phyllis (Richard).
She is survived by: her brother Richard (Joyce); her children, Donald Akers II and Peggy (William); and her grandchildren, Sarah (Thomas), Lisa, Nicholas (Megan) and Brandon. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
