He was predeceased by: his parents, John Chilton and Ica May Honaker; and his brothers, Gerald and Clinton Honaker. He is survived by: his mother-in-law Diane Earl Honaker; his wife Diane Honaker; his children, John Jr. (Kim), Daniel (Vanessa) and Christina Jenkins (Richard); his grandchildren, John Honaker (Caitlin), Benjamin Honaker, Abigail Wray, Adam Honaker, Ezekiel Honaker, Gavin Honaker, Sasha Jenkins and Corinne Jenkins; and his brother Carl Honaker.
