He was predeceased by: his wife Magdalene; his son Sam (Theresa); his parents, Nick and Rose; and his sister Dorothy Darrah.

He is survived by: his children, Tony and Jane; his grandson Justin Saeger; and his siblings, Frieda Williamson, Ludwig "Dick", Rosemarie Nelson, Edward and Mary Gundersen.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John to St. Mary Church.
