He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Newby and Frances Newby (Baker); his former wife Melva Carpenter; and his brothers, John and William Newby.
He is survived by: his son Jeff Newby (Carrie); and his stepchildren, Mary Beth Smith-Gunn (Jeff), Marcia Grizzard (Chuck), Matthew Smith (Lori), Michael Smith (Linda) and Mark Smith (Theresa). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's honor to American Diabetes Association or to the American Cancer Society.
