He was predeceased by: his wife Paula Elrod (Dobroski); his parents, Frank Elrod Sr. and Alberta; his stepfather Alfred Capps; and his brother Frank Elrod, Jr..

He is survived by: his daughters, Malissa Newman and Monica Mason (Brad); his grandchildren, Savannah Landis, Parker and Logan Mason; his daughter Sarah Mentzer; and his siblings, Roger Elrod and Lynda Rollence.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).
