He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Holmes and Mildred Holmes (Hadley); his sister Marion Huyck; and his brothers-in-law, Milton Tuttle, Roy Huyck and Donald Stauring.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Barnes; his children, Donald (Acehen Holmes), Laurie (Warren Dingman), Douglas (Lisa Holmes), Leslie Mondrick of West Winfield, NY and David Holmes (Randy Smith); his stepchildren, Christine, Mark Wickham of Roanoke, VA., Curtis, Allison Granger of Amherst, NY and Travis Blair of Huntington Beach, CA.; his sisters, Dorothy Kennedy of Ohio, Lucy Stauring of Arkport, NY and Ruth Tuttle of New York Mills, NY; and his sister-in-law Carol Hessel. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
