He was predeceased by: his parents, Barbero Sgarlata and Concetta Sgarlata; his wife Kathleen Loughney; and his stepmother Mary Grace Sgarlata. He is survived by: his sons, Michael of Geddes and Patrick Sgarlata (Elke) of Ellington, CT; his grandchildren, Kayla of Las Vegas, NV, Kelsey of Ellington, CT and Ethan of Ellington, CT; and his brother Robert (Eileen) of Solvay, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
