She was predeceased by: her father Chauncey Whitney; and her brother Ernest Whitney. She is survived by: her mother Thelma Whitney; her husband Richard Popp; her children, Matthew Popp (Amanda) and Christy Gaddis (Chris); and her grandchildren, Parker, Paxton, Pace Popp, Lincoln, Zoelle, Chandler and Whitney Gaddis.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been set up at South Kortright Central School in memory of Shirley.
