He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Antoine and Lois Cota (Fifield); and his wife Marge. He is survived by: his former wife Marjorie H. Ashley; his children, Douglas Cota (Denise) of Gouverneur, Eugene Cota (Marty) of Potsdam, Karen McGill (Francis) of Lisbon, Marilyn Cota (Caroline Demers) of Ogdensburg, Carolyn Cota of Ogdensburg, Cathy Cullen (Peter) of Melbourne, FL and Lisa Cota (Crystal Cary) of Ogdensburg; his close friend Jean Clark; and his siblings, Lyle Cota (Mary), Bertha Briggs of Canton and Joyce Daniels of Canton. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren.
