He was predeceased by: his parents, Maxwell Putney and Rose Putney (Johnson); his wife Eleanor C. Jones; and his siblings, Mark, William, Edward Putney and Ann Miller.
He is survived by: his son Joseph Putney, Jr. (Michelle) of Newport; his siblings, John Putney (Joanne) of Fairfield, James Putney (Margaret), Patrick Putney (Birdie) of Poland, Michael Putney (Pauline) of Vestal and Mary Putney (Don Bartley) of Minoa; his grandchildren, Tricia Yager (Jason), Michael (Melissa) of Maine, Alissa Roberts (Thomas), Kyle Putney and Kaitlynne Putney; his great grandchildren, Hayley, Jenna, Connor Yager, Gavin, Sarah, Rowan of Maine, Brynlee and Carlyle Roberts; and his siblings-in-law, Fred Jones of Utica and Patricia Roan (Richard). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
