He was predeceased by: his parents, Edna A. Donnelly and William E. "Bill" Helmer; his wife Janice M. Goth; and his sisters, Mary Podolak and Rita Donnelly.
He is survived by: his children, Gail O'Neil (Bill) of Poughkeepsie, Jacquelyn Valenta (Bill) of Tucson, AZ, David Helmer (Alison) of Rhinebeck and Thomas Helmer (Chris) of Round Rock, TX; and his sister Joan Sclafani. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
