He was predeceased by: his parents, James A. Purcell and Marjorie Campbell Purcell; his daughter Debra Valcik; and his brother John Purcell. He is survived by: his wife Carol Rock Purcell; and his children, James E. Purcell of Cohoes and Kathleen McCormick (Scott) of Waterford.
