He was predeceased by: his parents, Anias Thornton and Margaret Thornton (Hutchinson); his sisters, Eleanor Fulton, Thera Pond and Marjorie LeBlanc; his grandson Daniel Robert Hawkins; and his great grandchild Ashlyn Thornton.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Young; his children, Debra Thornton, Robert (Nancy Thornton), Diane (Mark Rice), Donna (Ken Whitford) and Richard "Thunder" (Rita Thornton); and his siblings, Anias "Sam" Thornton, II (Nomia) and Etha Nyval. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
