He was predeceased by: his parents, James Kirkpatrick and Elizabeth Alda Kirkpatrick (Sites); and his sister Virginia (Horner). He is survived by: his wife Mary Anne; his son Gerald L Kirkpatrick (Ann Marie La) of Crozet, VA; and his grandchildren, Colleen Leonard Wood-Smith of Greenwich, Conn, Ryan Kirkpatrick of East Aurora, NY and C. Fiona Kirkpatrick. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
