He was predeceased by: his child Baby Carithers; his parents, Reverend Lewis Benjamin Carithers (L. B.) and Laura B. Carithers; and his siblings, Dodge Carithers, Clinton Carithers, Martha J. Wiley, Annie Laura Flewellen and Evelyn Carter.
He is survived by: his wife Mary C. Carithers; his children, Chaka Ray, Tabatha Carithers, Clarence Carithers, Carl Carithers (Jessica), Carmen Carithers, James Carithers Jr. (Crystal), Malinda Carithers-Long, Lorenzo Miller (Ozella) and Jerome Miller; and his sisters, Gladys Davis of Hillside, NJ, Mary Benjamin of Ft. Pierce, FL and Linda Carithers of Lake Wales, FL. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
