He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Schmitt and Lorraine Schmitt (Quicke). He is survived by: his wife Susan; his children, Karl Schmitt, Kurt Schmitt (Cathy), Kara Schmitt, Ashley Schmitt and Kristian Schmitt; his grandchildren, Cole, Zach, Kelsey and Katie; his great grandchildren, Bailey and Ella; and his sisters, Sharon Schott and Jean Crawford. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins.
