He was predeceased by: his father Walter Schmigel; his wife Marian E. Schmigel; and his siblings, Roy, Millie, Ed, Fern, Don, Doris, Bud and Ramona.

He is survived by: his children, Dale Schmigel and Mark Schmigel (Connie); his granddaughters, Carissa Berghorn (Darren), Chelsea Kunkle (Brad), Tonya McCormick (Jeff) and Stefanie Schmigel; and his great grandchildren, Lilly and Lacey Berghorn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
