She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Edward Mican and Evelyne Mican (Dierschke); her children, Steven Smelser, Whitney Smelser of Bastrop, TX, Clair Strong (Stan) of Tucumcari, NM and Sherisse Hughes (Trevor) of Berthoud, CO; and her grandchildren, Jaegar, Heidi, AnnMarie, Park, Christa Strong, Rosalie, Elyse and Charlotte Hughes.
In Roswell, Julie ran the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and was active many community projects.
