He was predeceased by: his parents, Vicenzo Cognigni and Maria Ercoli Cognigni; and his brother Vincenzo "Vincent". He is survived by: his wife Jackie; and his siblings, Laura Lesko and Evo Cognigni (Agnes). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
