He was predeceased by: his parents, John Margres and Joan Margres; and his brother Matthew Margres. He is survived by: his wife Robin Margres (Hintze); his children, Jennifer Abney (Daniel Abney) and Mark Margres (Kristin Margres); his grandchildren, Brielle Joan, Everly Ann and Payton Rose; his siblings, Jack Margres and Laura Widmer (Michael Widmer); and his sister-in-law Valerie Margres. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
