Though Nolan may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the echoes of his kindness, the warmth of his embrace, and the light of his enduring love.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen Asch; his children, Melissa McInerney (Robert) and Greg Asch; his sister Elizabeth Downing; his grandsons, Grady and Connor McInerney; and his nephews, Sean Downing and Alex Feranec.

“My name is Leland Katz and I am chair of the lecture series committee at Cedar Crest, a continuous care retirement community in Pompton Plains. Nolan was one of our best speakers. Irreverent and iconoclastic with a keen sense of humor and a genuinely likable human being whose research into his historical subjects was always impeccable. He will be sorely missed. I am especially saddened because, at just 74, I hoped we would be enjoying his talks for years to come. Our condolences to his family.”
