He was predeceased by: his siblings, Robert, Leon, Larry and Janet Stretch; and his brother-in-law Stephen Blatcher.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Shinn; his children, John W. Shinn, Jr. (Gina) and Tracey L. DaCostaLobo (Matt); his stepchildren, Frankie Muger (AnnMarie) and Jimmy Muger (Beth); his grandchildren, Rebecca, Courtney, Anna, John III, Jackson, Frankie Jr., Brittany, Jimmy Jr., Steven, Jennifer, Brett, Jason, Melvin Jr., Travis, Jake, Ava, Shannon, Ellie, Dylan, Joshua, Carson, Caleb and Liam; his siblings, Edward Shinn (Elaine), Evelyn Rounds and Rose Shinn; his siblings-in-law, Patricia Melchiorre (John) and William Blatcher; and also Joey. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
