He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas McLaughlin and Christine McLaughlin (Coleman); his brother Jackie McLaughlin; and his godson John John McLaughlin. He is survived by: his children, Thomas McLaughlin, Maryann Steller (James), Kathleen Giordano (John), Steven McLaughlin (Eva), Michael McLaughlin (Lora) and Janine Abrahamsen; his wife Barbara McLaughlin (Knudsen); and his sisters, Elizabeth Fiorentino, Christine Durante, Joan Ann McLaughlin and Peggy (Thomas Cardoza). He is also survived by friends, neighbors.
