She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Earl Picard and Beatrice Picard (Hines); her husband George Battye (Bud); her children, Janva Adams (Stephen Adams) of Franklin and Bruce Battye (Ruth Battye) of Salisbury; and her brother Earl Picard (Sonny).

Muriel had a great love for animals and made numerous donations to animal rights organizations.
