He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul McKinney and Virginia McKinney; his brother Dan; and his brother-in-law Roy. He is survived by: his former wife Patsy Smith; his wife Pat of Wauneta, NE.; his children, Amy Rozelle (Trent Hill) of Wauneta, NE. and Aaron McKinney (Monica) of Wauneta, NE.; his son-in-law Jonathan Rozelle of Kimball, NE.; his grandchildren, Kelsey Rozelle, Alexus Barnes (Edward), Austen Rozelle, Braxton, MacKenzie and Gavin McKinney; his sister Linda Rasmussen (Jack) of Dix, NE.; and his fiancé Dan Dunnihoo of Dix, NE.. He is also survived by Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

During the span of his life, Jim was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Wild Turkey Federation, many carving clubs and stock club.
