He was predeceased by: his parents, Dora Steffen (Asbre) and Joseph Steffen; his wife Shirley Kuehn; and his siblings, Daniel Steffen, Maggie Borte, Delores Broders, Helen Volquardsen, Theresa Sorenson, Rosie Dreesen and Margie Pitman.
He is survived by: his brother Jim Steffen (Janice); his children, Cindy Filip (Mark), Doug Steffen (Kathy Nohr), Dr. David Steffen (Trish), Heidi Friedenbach (Rod) and Beth Nemec (Mark); and his grandchildren, Abby Michalski, Dr. Jennifer Hansen, Melisa Paradis, Dr. Katherine Damme, John Friedenbach, Scott Nemec, Ryan Nemec, Jeff Friedenbach and Julia Nemec. He is also survived by 2 great grandchildren.
He quit to take care of Shirley who had Alzheimer's. In 2016, they moved to assisted living in Elkhorn, NE to be near their children.
