He was predeceased by: his parents, Lonnie Sonnenschein and Mary Sonnenschein (Gurley); his parents-in-law, Mike and Dorothy Wessel; his brother-in-law Dal Armbruster; and his daughter-in-law Emilie Sonnenschein.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Wessel of Leonard's Catholic Church; his son Doug Sonnenschein of Vernal, UT; his granddaughter Chalcedony "Kelly" Sonnenschein; his in-laws, Carol Armbruster of Stanton, Val Wessel of Madison, Ken Wessel of Madison, Bill Wessel of Norfolk and Marilyn Jensen (Jim) of Norfolk; and his cousin Bonnie Barbe of Omaha. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
