He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Smith and Vivian Smith (Wilkinson); his stepfather Vern Travis; his son Morgan Russell, Jr.; and his sister Sandy Eich.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Ann Wurdeman; his children, Tom Smith of Sturgis, SD., Scott Smith (Laurie) of Kimball, NE., Lettie Bruckner (Richard) of Parker, CO. and Troy Smith (Janelle) of Whitman, NE; his siblings, David Smith (Janet) of California, Elmer Travis of Dix, NE., Harold Travis (Janese) of Gurley, NE, Karen Schroeder (Dean) of Cheyenne, WY., Betty Smith (Duane) of Kimball, NE., Judy Allison of Kimball, NE. and Barbara Henne of Dix, NE; his grandchildren, Lynelle, Megan, Paige, Daniel, Shawn and Chase; and his great grandchildren, Jace, Kannon and Audrey.

Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Kimball County Manor.
