It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Smith of Gothenburg, Nebraska, born in Grand Island, Nebraska, who passed away on April 12, 2022, at the age of 77, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Dean Smith and Dorothea Smith; his siblings, Don Smith and Karen Mendez (Antonio); his great grandchild Joshua Warner; his parents-in-law, William "Bill" and Erma Hicken; his siblings-in-law, Lloyd Farnstrom, Melvin Hicken, Juleen Farnstrom, Evonne Hicken and Mary Hicken; and his aunt Bernice Cook (Bernie).

He is survived by: his wife Karan Smith of Gothenburg, NE; his children, Michele Warner (Brad) of Gothenburg, NE and Matt Smith (Keta) of North Platte, NE; his brother Kim Smith (Sandy); and his uncle Donald "Bud" Cook. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Memorials may be given to the American Lutheran Church Women.
