He was predeceased by: his parents, Berthal "Bert" Sappingfield and Iva Sappingfield (Peterson); his former wife Lauraine Sappingfield; and his brothers, Don, Bert Jr., Eldon and Bill Sappingfield.
He is survived by: his former spouse Lauraine E. Johnson; his wife Corinne Sappingfield (Fecht) of Gothenburg; his children, Kim Tobaben (Dave) of Gothenburg and Tracy "Flip" Sappingfield (Karen) of Gothenburg; his sister Elaine Pedersen of Sioux City, IA; his grandchildren, Andrea of Kearney, Rachel Tobaben of Kearney, Joshua Tobaben of Omaha and Shane Sappingfield (Kendyl) of Kearney; and his great grandchildren, Brenton Tobaben of Kearney, Haedyn Tobaben of Kearney and Penelope Tobaben of Omaha. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
