He was predeceased by: his parents, Laurence Sheldon and Sybil Sheldon (Wood); and his brother David Sheldon. He is survived by: his wife Patricia of Elkhorn; his daughters, Sandee Sheldon (Ryan Schmidt) of Los Gatos, Marj Skowronski (Andrew) of Omaha and Laura McClanahan (Bryan) of Overland Park, Kansas; his stepgrandchildren, Sydney and Jackson McClanahan; and his pets, Midnight and Spooky.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nebraska Humane Society in his honor.
