He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Francis and Thresia Ann Caroline (Gleisner); his wife Helena Bauer; his daughter Mary Brekhus; and his sister Verna Wirtz (Clarence).
He is survived by: his children, Joseph Caroline (Debra) of Wahpeton, ND, David Caroline (Phyllis) and Dorothy Placek (Mark); his grandchildren, Brendan Caroline (Nicole), Elizabeth Loeks (Jacob), Greg Brekhus (Heidi), Jason Brekhus (Deanna Lindemann), Erin Berentson (Colton), Austin Placek (Lacey) and Ashley Olson (Darron); and his brother Vernon Caroline of Little Canada, MN. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebrating the Life of James: Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, A Private Graveside Service was held at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare.
In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred: St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare CaringEdge Hospice of Minot Kenmare Vets Club Or a favorite charity of the donor.
