He was predeceased by: his father Hardie Maurice; his siblings, Dallas Gardner, Hazel Morgan, Gaynell Rogerson and Judith Selph; and his pet Bandit.
He is survived by: his wife Janie Ayers Gardner; his children, Kevin Gardner of Williamston, Eric Gardner of Jamesville and Gina Gardner Grimes (David) of Smithfield; and his granddaughters, Madeline, Lydia and Margo Grimes.
