She was predeceased by: her parents, James Ransom Horne and Eva Sims Horne; her siblings, Harold Horne, Alvin Horne and Vera Horne Robles; and her husband Clarence Howard "Cee" Tompkins.

She is survived by: her sister Clara Horne Evans (Seldon); and her children, James Lane (Lisa) of Waxhaw, NC, Mary Ann (late James Mummey) of Lakeland, FL, Evan Marcus (Donna) of Hendersonville, NC and Rollin Putnam (Kathie) of Asheville, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
